What we Do; Appraise-Buy-Sell-Brokerage

We are not an antiques shop in the typical sense. Our business is appraising, buying and selling Chinese and Asian art for our customers. We handle collections of all sizes from just one or two things to large a collection comprising hundreds of pieces in all price ranges.

Regardless of nearly any situations, we are equipped to handle evaluations and sale of Asian art on behalf of heirs, families or individuals in need of our services.  We can explain clearly all available options and offer recommendations best suited to accomplish your goals.

Our offices are centrally located in Gloucester in a former 19th C. bank now our business’s home. When you call, you’ll speak immediately with  (me) Peter Combs, my wife Francesca or our eldest son Bradford. (He's been in the business for nearly ten years already.)

A bit about us.

Both Francesca Hillyer Combs and Peter L. Combs were born and raised on the waters of the North Shore of Boston, Massachusetts. In fact, even though they never met as children, both Peter and Francesca spent a great deal of their childhood mucking about in boats within easy hailing distance of each other.

A bit more about-contact us

Today, Peter and his family live a short sail up the coast from their childhood homes on a quiet, short street that dead ends on the ocean in the spectacularly unique coastal city of Gloucester, Massachusetts on Cape Ann (“the other cape”). Our kids still ride their bikes to the beach; to buy candy at the local store, to their favorite fishing spots, or to swim in the quarries around our small neighborhood where half the doors still remain unlocked.

After nearly 18 years as an appraiser, auctioneer, and partner at Landry Auctions in nearby Essex, Peter decided to separate plcombs Asian Art and move his offices to downtown Gloucester. Prior to joining Landry’s, Peter was an established Asian antique dealer and had found many great items in the thousands of antique shops and auction houses up and down the Eastern seaboard, from Lubec Maine to New Orleans. His skills and experienced eyes have made Peter a successful dealer and appraiser with active business relationships around the world.
